Weligama & Mirissa Surf Camp in Sri Lanka, AMA Surf Camp, was built on years of surfing experience and a passion for sharing the ocean with travelers from around the world. Our journey began with our successful surf school in Weligama, and today we continue to help surfers of all levels build confidence, improve their skills, and enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka’s south coast.
Ama Surf Camp teaches surfing as a skill built over time, not a one-off win, with coaches who’ve been at it since 2015 and small, capped groups split by skill level (beginners vs. intermediates) so everyone gets real, personalized attention, from pop-up mechanics and wave-catching basics to positioning and wave selection for those linking turns. Every session wraps with a debrief, sometimes using photos or video, to compare how a wave felt versus how it looked, all built on the philosophy that progress comes from repetition paired with specific coaching, not just time in the water.
Ama Surf Camp offers private, shared, and dorm rooms to suit different travelers, from those wanting their own space with real beds and ensuite bathrooms to those on a budget or looking for social energy in shared and dorm setups, but every room type still delivers comfortable beds, proper gear storage, good airflow, and clean bathrooms, because rest is treated as a core part of the program, not an afterthought, since real recovery out of the water is what drives real progress in it.
Ama Surf Camp runs optional yoga sessions daily, alternating between morning practices to open up hips, shoulders, and spine before paddling out and evening sessions to unwind and recover as the day ends, going beyond flexibility to prevent the shoulder and lower-back strain common among surfers; speed up recovery between sessions; and offer the same mental reset the water provides, treating yoga and surfing as one continuous rhythm rather than separate activities, with the camp’s team on hand in Weligama to help with yoga schedules, surf lessons, accommodation, and packages for anyone looking to balance active ocean days with calm moments on land.
Ama Surf Camp encourages guests to explore Mirissa beyond the morning surf sessions, either through guided trips led by locals to nearby waterfalls, villages, and hidden viewpoints or independently with recommendations for towns, local food stalls, and quieter spots worth visiting, built on the idea that a surf trip should include the surrounding coastline, culture, and landscape, not just time on the water.

I had my lessons at Ama Surf School with Nevishka and it was awesome. He's super patient, explains everything in a simple way and never lets you give up — even when you fall for the tenth time 😄 Thanks to him I stood up on the board way faster than I expected and actually started enjoying the waves instead of fighting them. My coach was so professional and patient! I’m a total beginner and had only taken one surfing lesson the day before, but my coach was incredibly helpful and took the time to help me practice my pop-up.
The other team members were also so nice and even helped me film some videos, which was such a lovely bonus!

The best surfing school in all over weligama and ahangama. Our instructor Akila was so good and patient with helping us. 90 mins of surfing and I’ve completely come to love the sport because of Akila. His way of teaching was so damnnn good didn’t feel like it’s my first time surfing moreover as a non swimmer. But suggest you to get your own swimwear.

I had such a great experience learning surfing here! 🌊🏄♀️ The teachers were really good, patient, and encouraging throughout the sessions. I learnt from Asan. In just 3 days, I was able to start paddling and even balance on the board a little, which I honestly didn’t expect! They made learning feel fun and comfortable, even as a beginner. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn surfing! ❤️

Amazing experience at Ama Surf!
It was my first time surfing and I loved every minute of it. My instructor, Achi, was fantastic and helped me catch waves right away. I had so much fun and did way better than I expected. I would definitely come back and repeat! Highly recommended if you are in Weligama. 🏄♂️🌊🤙🏻

On our trip to Sri Lanka in April 2026 I wanted to try Surfing but didn’t have much time to join their 3-7 day training course. When I told AMA surfing about my time constraints they offered me a 75 min beginners session at a very reasonable rate and I really enjoyed surfing
. The instructors Ashi,Naveen and Achi guided me really well with warm ups and safety drills.After 30 minutes of training (warm ups + safety drills + standing up on the board) we went to the sea where the waves were beginner friendly! For nearly 45 minutes I was inside the sea with the instructor trying my luck at surfing! The instructor was also very friendly and motivated me to keep trying! With his guidance and support I could manage to stand and balance on the wave board for few minutes (and multiple times) which I can proudly say! For those who don’t know surfing this is the best way to try your luck in a short span of time! Totally recommend AMA school!

I had my first surfing experience at Ama Surfing with Nevishka, and it was an amazing experience for me. Nevishka guided me very well throughout the lesson and made everything easy to understand, even as a beginner. Thanks to his patience, encouragement, and clear instructions, I was able to successfully enjoy my first surfing lesson with confidence.
